Parent Bulletin

November 2, 2000

Dear Parents,

Please welcome Toni Reineke, our new Instrumental Music Instructor for our fourth and fifth grade students. Due to the high number of students who signed up for Instrumental Music it is impossible to supply every student with an instrument from the school’s inventory. We will, however, continue to try to offer students school district owned instruments.

Also, please welcome our new school nurse, David Abrahms. We don’t have a set schedule for him yet, but are glad he is here to help band-aid knees and take temperatures!!!

As you may have heard on the news, there has been some conflict with the new report card the school district designed. When you arrive for your Parent/Teacher conference you will see that we are using the same report card as last year. Please remember that all students are measured against a grade level standard. The grading system reflects where they are in relation to a specific standard. Because it is early in the year many students may not be at grade level. Please keep this in mind when you discuss your child’s progress with their teachers.

I hope everyone has recovered from the Halloween experience. Book Character Day was a rousing success. I want to especially thank Ms. Napolitan for coordinating the activities. I also want to thank all the parents who helped make it a memorable day for all of our students.

Next Thursday is our Veteran’s Day assembly. The program will begin at 2:00.

Sincerely,

Barry Dorsey

Principal

Science Center Van

Thank you to Patti Berg-Le and all the parent volunteers for helping with the Pacific Science Center Van visit today. Ask your student what they learned today about technology!

Parties

We enjoy celebrating your child’s birthday at school; HOWEVER, each teacher has a different system for these parties. Some classrooms combine birthdays by the month, some celebrate on the birthday. Please call or send a note to the teacher IN ADVANCE of your child’s birthday to ask what the classroom policy is. If you are bringing treats, and have pre-arranged the date and time with the teacher, please be sure you have enough for everyone. You will need to supply the paper products (plates, napkins, cups, etc.). Cupcakes seem to be easier for everyone so you don’t have to spend a lot of time cutting a cake.

Picture Retakes

If you did not order a picture packet or your child was absent when the photographers were here, you have another opportunity! Please send your order form with payment, or return the unsatisfactory picture packet, on November 14th with your student. Pictures packets will be back before the holidays.
