Parent Bulletin
September 13, 2001
>From the principal:

Congratulations to staff, students and family members for a wonderful
opening of school. I encourage parents and guardians to come to school
and volunteer your time as much as possible. Your presence at Arbor
Heights will be greatly appreciated by all.

With the tragedy of Tuesday’s events comes our heightened awareness
regarding our own safety and security. Please know that the entire
Arbor Heights staff at all times has your child’s welfare as a
priority. We are in the process now of upgrading our disaster plans.
Emergency backpacks will be put together for every room in the
building. The outside container with emergency tools and other
equipment will be reassembled to upgrade the current container. Plans
for using the school as an emergency shelter for the neighborhood will
be explored. One parent has expressed an interest in reviewing school
security during the regular school day. These, among other things, are
wonderful opportunities in which you might get involved.

Please plan to attend the PTA meeting at Arbor Heights on Thursday, 20
September at 7:00 p.m. You will be informed of what is happening in
school and the district. Our school is what we all make it.

I look forward to a great school year with you and your children,

Carol A. Coram, Ed.D

>From the office:

Students that are assigned a school bus for their afternoon
transportation home are required to take the school bus unless the
prearranged ride arrives before the dismissal bell. Children frequently
misunderstand a change of instruction given to them before school,
therefore our policy is that unless we receive a note AND the
parent/guardian is here prior to 3:00 to pick up a regular bus rider,
the child will be placed on the bus. If you have any questions, please
call 933-5350.

Please be aware of bus parking areas before and after school when
picking up children. If you need to cross the street or want your child
to, do this at the Safety Patrol Crossing.

Supplies Wanted:

90 – 2 liter plastic pop bottles for Mr. Swan’s classroom. Needed ASAP.

Also, empty flattened cereal boxes. Number unlimited.

Children’s shoe boxes for Ms. Sato’s classroom

>From the PTSA

The first PTSA meeting of the year will be 9/20. Please come join us to
learn what we’re doing at the school.

Technology Update: The computer lab needs 30 – 17” computer monitors to
go with the new terminals. Please let us know if you or your company
has any to update.

Playground Update: Mark your calendars for October 27th. We will be
doing a community build to add on to the playscape. Sign-up sheets will
be going out shortly.

Instead of replacing the damaged asphalt on the playground with more
asphalt, we have proposed to build a grass oasis next to the playscape
area. The plan calls for birch trees, grass and seating for an entire
classroom. We will need lots of help. At this time we’re looking for a
volunteer skilled in pouring cement walls and donated fill dirt. Call
Janet at 935-7753.
