Superintendent John Stanford
The staff at Arbor Heights is deeply saddened by the death of
our Superintendent, John Stanford. Mr. Stanford epitomized a
dedication and love for our children which will long be
remembered. Classrooms at Arbor Heights will read for 15
minutes at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, the time Mr. Stanford s body
will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. We will
miss him greatly.
A Note From Our Library
During conferences I was pleased to give away so many books to
kickoff our Family Read-Aloud for November and December. If
your child missed getting his or her new book just send a note
to the library and I will make sure they get their book. It may
also be helpful to just remind you of the reading programs we
sponsor here at Arbor Heights:
The Family Read-Aloud is a program for parents to read to
their children in November and December. The Sonics 20/20
Program is a monthly calendar to encourage kids to practice
reading at home. There is a drawing each month for a prize. If
children do any reading for homework this can count on the 20/20
calendar. They don t have to read extra. The Read For Books
Program is an on-going all year reading incentive program for
kids in grades 1-5 reading at school, and for Kindergartners
reading (or being read to at home). Lastly, we read and try to
answer the Paige Turner monthly book riddle that is run by the
Seattle Times and the Bon Marche . Thank you PTSA for your
wonderful support in providing books through-out the year. Dene

Winter Program
Please mark your calendars now!! The evening performance of
the Winter Program will be held on Thursday, December 17th. We
will have a full performance in the afternoon of Wednesday,
December 16th at 1:30 and two shorter performances the evening
of the 17th. Because of the space problem we have with an event
like this we are dividing the evening show into two parts.
At 6:30 p.m. (on 12/17) Rooms 3, 4, 1, 19, 13, 14, 18, 16 and
17 will perform. They should finish around 7:15 p.m. At that
time we will clear the auditorium and at 7:30 p.m. Rooms 9, 12,
15, 7, 22, 23, 21, 24 and 25 will perform. Children should
report to their classrooms 15 minutes prior to the start of
their program (6:15 or 7:15). Parking will be available on our
playground.
If you have a child in both performances you are certainly
welcome to stay for both programs, or, you may elect to see the
1:30 p.m. show. I look forward to seeing you on the 16th or
17th.
Lost and Found
We have a number of very nice coats, sweaters, etc. in our lost
and found cupboard. On December 18th we plan to donate these
clothing articles to agencies that can put them to good use. Be
sure to have your child check the lost and found if you are
missing anything.
Instrumental Music Concert
All of our 4th and 5th graders who play a musical instrument
here at school will be involved in a Spring Concert on April
7th. The concert will be at the new Rainier Beach High School
Performing Arts Center. Details will be sent home in March.
Sincerely,
Barry Dorsey
