Parent Bulletin
October 7, 1999

Dear Parents,

Have you had a chance to see how wonderful the grounds look? We had so many hard working parents come on Saturday to clean. They really burned off the calories from the Pancake Breakfast! Thank you to everyone who spent part of their weekend cleaning up the grounds. I also want to thank all the parents that had the opportunity to attend the parent information nights last Wednesday and Thursday. Our generous PTSA supplied the treats on those nights.

Tomorrow, Friday, October 8th, is a Seattle School District Waiver Day. Teachers will be taking classes and attending workshops. Students do not attend school tomorrow.

I want to send best wishes to Maria Hennessey, our lunchroom assistant. Last Friday was her final day working here. We will miss her.

Most of our second grade students are taking the Direct Reading Assessment this week. These results will be available during the November conference period.

The self manager buttons began being distributed this week!! Mr. Wilkie is still waiting for a responsible adult to nominate him for a button.

October is a busy month. Please review your school calendars so you will not miss any important activities.

Sincerely,
Barry S. Dorsey
Principal

Open House
Next Thursday, October 14th, is the Arbor Heights Open House. The schedule for the evening will go home on Monday. The Parent/Teacher Conference's are in November and that is the time you will be able to discuss your child's individual progress with their teacher. The Open House is your opportunity to meet your child's teacher, learn about the curriculum, see some of the work they have been doing and treat yourself to an Ice Cream Sundae!!

Traffic Enforcement
We have been notified by the Seattle Police Department they will be ticketing vehicles parked in the bus zone. Please note that the bus zone extends to the west side of the playground gate in addition to the front of the building. Please also be reminded that blocking driveways and mailboxes could result in a citation.

Highly Capable Forms
The Seattle School District offers two programs for students who perform at very high levels on achievement and aptitude tests. To enter the Spectrum Program (formerly called Horizon) or the Accelerated Progress Program (APP) next fall, a student must be nominated by a parent or a teacher. Student nomination forms are available in our office. The deadline for all grade levels is November 3rd. No late forms will be accepted.
