HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
I hope you all had a wonderful winter break.
PTA Meeting Tonight
Our PTA will hold its January meeting this evening, January 9th, at 7:00 p.m. We will meet in the lunchroom and child care will be available in the gym.
Reading Incentive Program
As you know, our school tries to emphasize the importance of reading in a different way each month. January is Award Winning Book Month at Arbor Heights. Your children will be exposed to a number of great books this month in our library and in our classrooms. You might want to visit a public library with your child this month and ask about age-appropriate award winners on their shelves.
Evening Computers
Our computer lab is open every Tuesday and Thursday evening for parent/family/community use. We are going to change the hours of our Thursday program in an attempt to make the lab more available to adults. Effective January 14th our hours will be:
Tuesdays 4:00 - 7:00 p.m.
Thursdays 6:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Stop by and check it out.
Kindergarten Parents
One of our p.m. students, Kori Ball, has leukemia. She has been out of school for a while but will be returning to us soon. A clinical nurse specialist from Children's Hospital, Jan Hokenstad, will be coming to our school on Friday, January 17th (1:30 - 2:15) to talk to our kids about Kori's condition. If your child is in the a.m. session and you'd like him/her to attend this presentation, please feel free to bring your child. Adults are welcome to stay too.
We have a number of good books available for check out if you'd like more information to share with your child. Stop by the office to check one out. Kori's prognosis is good and we're sure anxious to have her back with us as she continues treatments.
Sex Offender Bulletin
We have been notified by the Seattle Police Department that a sex offender has been released into the West Seattle Community. We were asked not to send home a copy of the bulletin we received, but it may be reviewed at the school office or you may call the Special Assault Unit at 684-5588 for further information.
Basketball Tickets
We have a number of free tickets to the January 18th womens basketball game between the University of Washington and Washington State. The game will be played at 7:00 p.m. in Hec Edmundson Pavilion. Please send a note to school if you'd like some tickets for your family.
No School January 20th/31st
The Seattle Public Schools will be closed on January 20th in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. There will be no school on January 31st as it is the day between semesters.
Sincerely,
Carl Leatherman
