BOOK CHARACTER DAY - OCTOBER 31ST

On Thursday, October 31st we will be having Book Character Day at Arbor Heights. Children have been encouraged to bring an item, costume, etc. to school that goes along with a character from a book (fiction or non-fiction). Nothing elaborate is needed. The idea is for our kids to have fun and become even more excited about reading. Our schedule for the afternoon will be as follows:

The morning kindergarten will have their own parade/party.

Evening Computers

With Halloween being this Thursday we are going to move our Thursday Evening Computer program to Friday this week. I hope you will stop by our lab with your family.

Chess Club

Our new after school Chess Club starts on Thursday, November 7th. If your child is interested, and hasn't signed up yet, have him/her see Mr. Wilkie for a permission slip.

Highly Capable Programs

Reminder: Application forms for our district's Highly Capable Programs are due in the office on November 5th, 1996.

Student Assignment Meetings

Seattle Public Schools will hold four meetings with the community on October 29th and 30th to provide a follow up report on the latest developments in efforts to design a new way of assigning students to schools.

The meetings will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 29th at: Thurgood Marshall Elementary School, 2401 S. Irving Street, Muir Elementary School, 3301 S. Horton and Northgate Elementary School, 11725 - 1st Street N.E.

A meeting will also be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on October 30th at B.F. Day School, 3921 Linden Avenue N.

At the meetings, staff members will explain the proposal to phase in the proposed student assignment plan, discuss possible next steps, and solicit community reactions and suggestions. Superintendent John Stanford recommended to the School Board that a three-year phase-in be considered following input from an earlier round of community meetings.

Sincerely,
Carl Leatherman
Principal
