WINTER BREAK DECEMBER 22--JANUARY 2, 1995
The Spam Man
by Peter
Once there was a grumpy man
who ate a lot of spam.
Once there was a kid who
came to Grumpy and said,
"I want to have your spam."
The grumpy man took
his gnarled hand and ...
"BAM," the kid was spam!
GRUMPY old man had
turned the kid into a can of spam!
THE grumpy old man
took his hand and ...
"BAM" the kid was ham!
THE old man turned
the kid into a CAN!
CHOCOLATE COVERED PEANUTS
by Jacob
Yum! Yum!
The chocolate taste
Oh, it feels like it's making me fat
Yum! Yum! The peanuts taste, too
I love it; I eat it!
That's that...
I eat them with milk
They slide back and fore
I hope I can burp
For the taste I adore.
CHRISTMAS TIME
by Annalisa
Christmas is the time of year,
that we all come together.
We sing beautiful Christmas carols,
In any type of weather.
The snow falls like angels,
dancing in the night.
We watch them float down,
By the wondrous Christmas light.
We sleep and wait for Santa Claus,
and dream the wildest dreams,
and hope to find the coolest toys,
and eat some dandy creams.
Hoping to find the stockings full,
of things that taste so sweet.
And then we go and sing real loud,
to friends and people we meet.
Christmas time is wonderful,
so many things to do.
We get together, talk and play,
I get to be close to you!
CLASSROOM NEWS: BY ARBOR HEIGHTS NEWS REPORTERS
Hi, it's me AGAIN! [they still haven't fired me] Matt, the man with recently counted, 2,321,123 opinions. [plus 2,000 quotes]. In Mr. Wagner's class we HAVE BEEN ENDURING ENDLESS TORTURE !!!! ##!!SLAP!!## Oh, I'm sorry. I meant, we have been having a great time with LAPTOPS. Oh, they're great, they're, ##!!SPLAT!!## [is that joke getting old?] No, just kidding, we've done a lot of thing like going to assemblies and reading the " Magician's Nephew." Mr. Wagner is a lot of fun [still] even though he does give us a lot of homework.
We are going to go to the Seattle Aquarium. It is going to be-eee fun! This is the first field trip all year!
P.S. Have you heard about the bill to BAN HOMEWORK???
In class we were making bottles and putting flowers in them. We had to cover them with small pieces of masking tape. Then you rub the tape with colored shoe polish. The straw flowers are added last.
We're also doing needle point. It is really cool. You can make a good gift out of it. You can make a box and picture frame and puppet. Some of us have finished our first one.
In Seattle our weather is cold and snowy. This is very unusual in Seattle. We had one to three inches of snow. Only a third of the kids in our class showed up, after we started two hours late. The buses came late and had a hard time on the slippery streets and hills.
In our room we're doing a radio play called, " The Frog Prince". It is about a frog and a princess. The princess loses the ball in a pond. The frog says he can help the princess get the ball if he can live in the palace and eat from the princess' plate and sleep on her pillow. The frog eventually turns into a handsome prince.
Room 23--Reggie
Our class is studying social studies. It's about people who first settled our country. They had a rough life and fought many wars. My class is going swimming at the Southwest Pool. We have a swimming lesson first and then have free time. We shoot baskets in the pool. It's cool.
Room 18--Michaela
We made a Christmas tree out of the shapes of our hands. We curled the tips of the hands and we made a Santa Claus. Arbor Heights is the best and so is my teacher. I love Arbor Heights.
Room 16-- Mallory & Danny
We are reading, "A Wrinkle in Time." It's about space travel. The main characters are: Meg, Charles, Wallace and Calvin. Mrs. Who. Mrs. What's It, and Mrs. Which are also very important. After we finish the book we are going to the play at The Children's Theater. In our classroom we have two mice. The male mouse froze to death and the female mouse is trying to keep the babies warm so they don't die, by putting chewed-up cardboard on the babies.
Room 15-- Jed and Serena
Room 15 went to a play called, "A Christmas Carol," and there was a mean guy called Scrooge in it. He didn't like Christmas. He didn't give the poor anything. He liked counting money. The ghost of Jacob Marley came to visit him. It was said that three more ghosts will come to visit you in the next three nights--Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. Jacob Marley changed to a nice man and gave money to the poor. He gave his workmen a turkey, and a break from work, instead of being selfish every day.
Room 14--Dustin & Katrina
We have drawings on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The drawings are for toys. Everyone gets a turn by being a leader and a star student. We listened to a music cassette called, "The Cinnamon Bear." We made cinnamon bears and they are hung outside our classroom. We made clay leaves using big, real, fall leaves and clay. We painted them red, yellow, and green. We are going to take them home. We can keep them or give them away. We will be singing our way to Granny Rosie's house to hear her secret. We will be singing to a piano song called, "Turning and Twisting." We like it because it is a song we can act out.
In Room 12 we get to change partners every 3 weeks. We draw names from a bucket for student of the week and the classroom jobs. One of the students moved to Alaska. Our heat was off for two days in Room 12. We are learning cursive writing. We are also learning to save our work on a disk in the computer lab.
Room 9--Wesley and Nicole
Christmas break is coming soon. In reading we just read, "Patchwork Ouilt." In English we're doing plural and singular nouns. One more thing, I hope you have a good break. Bye.
In Room 8 we are making gingerbread houses. We are going swimming soon. We are having our social studies test. Ms Luke's desk is still not organized. We hope it will be organized by next month. We have started our multiplication facts.
Room 7-- Cameron
In our class we are making Christmas mice. We make them by taking a walnut and shaping felt into a cone. We put cotton at the top of the cone and then make two small circles and put them on the side of the walnut and put the cone on top of the walnut and then put eyes on it and you're done.
Room 4- Allison and Kellen
We had activity time. I did the number 6 and played with legos. We have tag with numbers or letters. We go to different places and work with blocks, trains, shapes and housekeeping things. We have trees on our bulletin board for the holidays.
We have a puppet for every letter of the alphabet.
Room 1--Steven and Hilary
We have sharing every Monday, where people can bring toys to school. They leave them in their backpacks 'till sharing time. Everyone tries to guess what they have from the clues they give. We're going on a field trip to the Museum of Flight. We'll listen to someone talk about science and do other things that most people don't get to do. We've been planting bulbs that will grow into narcissus. The roots are showing now. We're hoping it snows this week.
MORE KID'S STUFF
When we're in the computer lab, we are learning touch typing and Microsoft Works. In touch typing we are learning how to type fast with the right fingers. In Microsoft Works, we are learning how to save our work to a disk. Some people think it is fun. Some people don't. I like Microsoft Works because I like to type a lot. - Stephanie
MICROSOFT CONTEST: DEADLINE IS DECEMBER 31ST!
by Makala
There was a girl named Makala, who went for a walk. She stopped, looked to her left, and saw a computer. It had the monitor on top of the computer, like most computers, except it would print out from the top. She took it home.

Wow! Just look at what I can do. I can unscramble complicated world problems. I can talk to presidents, kings, and queens all over the world. I help save the environment, stop protests, and get people jobs. That's just a little bit of what I can do.
P.S. Kids love me too!

It's the day after Thanksgiving,
and today no shoppers whistling,
Unbeautiful site,Unhappy tonight,
Shopping the day after Thanksgiving.
Gone away is the turkey,
Here to stay is the jerky,
If they're singing this song as they go along, they're
Shopping the day after Thanksgiving
In the aisles we can get some presents,
For the minister and Little Jr., too.
I'll say, "Is this fun?" and they'll say,
"No, man, but can you do the job since you're in town?"
Later on, I'll conspire,
As my feet catch on fire,
Do they need all of this, "It's the pits,"
SHOPPING THE DAY AFTER THANKSGIVING!
by Maria
I was born in a hospital in San Diego, and went to Mexico when I was a little baby. My house in Mexico was very big with six rooms; three upstairs and three downstairs. We had lots of plants and the house looked like a jungle.
We also had many different animals in our household. When I was one year old, my mother gave me a rabbit and it was going to have babies. It had five baby bunnies. Five little baby bunnies were born and they were like small balls of fluff.
When I was five my brother got a cat from my uncle. Then when I was eight my sister got some turtles from her godmother. When I was eight and one half I came to Seattle, Wa. I think Seattle is a good place to live.

MR. WILKIE'S COMPUTER TRIVIA
I have two questions for you. What is the World Wide Web? What does "on-line" mean? If you want to know the answer, or if you know the answers, be sure to tell me, Mr. Wilkie.
If you're on the Net, Mr. Wilkie loves mail. Look for his address on the staff list, and send him some mail. Tell him what you think is "cool" about the Internet!
