--- TIC-TECH message:
I've passed this information on to N2H2. We've generally found them to be
responsive when provided information on specific sites where there are
problems. I encourage anyone who has this type of difficulty to send the URL
to the IS Help Desk so we can forward it to N2H2.
Thanks,
Judy

Subject: Tic-Tech: ** Bess Problems **
--- TIC-TECH message:
Hello All,
Here's a note I received from a tech-saavy science teacher regarding some
very frustrating problems with the Bess Trailer.
===========================================================
My 9th meteorology students had to prepare a 4-day forecast final exam for
their city entirely during class-time yesterday (47 minutes). This means
they had to check as many as five different web pages - so they were
somewhat pressed for time. The BESS trailer java script was causing type
11 errors (memory related) on my Macs, freezing up the machines and
forcing the kids to reboot (they must have changed the script in the last
day or two since it hasn't RECENTLY been a problem). Well, rebooting
takes time and the kids didn't have any so we had to scramble from machine
to machine and it was all unnecessarily upsetting and nerve wracking.
This problem usually appears on sites that are also running java script -
so pages don't load properly and we get several java error messages.
There appears to be a conflict between java scripts.
===========================================================
Question: If Bess has to have a trailer on each page why do they have to
use java script or other problematic code? Just simple HTML would seem to
be best for ensuring compatibility with the variety of browsers and
platforms out there.
Perhaps someone could pass this message on to relevant BESS staff.
