Mark,
Your decision to purchase the Norton Antivirus software to protect your
school was a good decision during that time . However, this occurred before
we were able to negotiate and locate funds to give our schools a free
antivirus solution. The Norton Antivirus is still one of the best
available. I suggest that you load the software on the remaining computers
and get the updates from the Internet or from your Network Analyst Sam
Alkurson. The product is purchased with two years of updates. I will have
Sam contact you to develop a plan and assist you with the installation.
You may want to hand out Command Antivirus to the teachers staff and
students to take home. Our license covers everyone in the district to use
at work and at home. We will be making some zip floppies to hand out at our
next Tech. Forum. We gave away the CD version last time.
Having two antivirus packages is not a bad idea either. Sometimes one
catches what the other misses.
Happy computing!

Subject: Tic-Tech: anti-virus advice?
--- TIC-TECH message:
Last spring my school bought 70+ licenses of Norton 2000 from the
district for $800+. We were never able to get it installed on more than
4 machines. Now the district is offering Command Anti virus free. I'm
looking for advice here... If we figure out a way to get the software
loaded on all our machines, which way should we go? Stay with what we
paid for, or go with the free program? I'm not at all familiar with
Command. I ask in part because this was a fairly weighty decision for
the school, how to spend that money. I'm willing to tell staff I should
have seen it coming, the free program is lots better, whatever. But we
do need to decide which program would be best for us now. Thanks in
advance for any advice. - Mark
