Please share with you team!
The current energy crisis has created a renewed interest in power
conservation and a heightened awareness of the energy required to operate
our computers. Many questions are asked of Information Services about when
it is appropriate to power off desktop computers and monitors. The answer
to these questions can help the Seattle School District not only save a
large amount of money wasted running idle computers, but can also play an
important part in reducing the power crisis and saving our environment.
Therefore, the rule of thumb, if you are not planning to use your desktop
computer for more than 6 to 8 hours, you should shut down the system and
power off to both the computer and monitor. Printers and accessories should
also be powered off. If your computer is very old and has not been turned
off for a very long time, your disk drive may not restart. This is a very
good opportunity to backup your files that are critical to you. This advice
is valid at work and at home.
This advice is only for personal desktop computers. Network equipment,
servers and other equipment should not be powered off unless directed to do
so by technical staff.
Should you have any question about powering off any computer equipment,
please call the Help Desk at 252-0333.
Thanks
