    --- TIC-TECH message:

Here are some things I've been thinking about regarding licensing.

    1. I appreciate the posting regarding an alternative to WinZip: I was going
to go search for something like that. One problem solved!

    2. I wanted to second the motion to see a web page with notes regarding site
    or school licenses.

    3. I was wondering if we could coordinate somehow with the district
inventory folks to see what they have listed both hardware & software wise
for our school??? Are they any more organized than we are?

    4. I would like to ask about Client Access Licenses. I am assuming that
each person who gets an Outlook Address has or will have a valid Exchange
Client Access License, and that we don't need to worry about this at the
school level. But, what about NT Server Client Access Licenses?? We
already have a server in our library with NT3.5 on it. Now we've set up a
file server with NT4.0 evaluation copy. Our 90 days are ticking. We are
accessing NT Server at the district for certain applications so ???? Please
    explain.

    5. If we have a donated machine, and it is a Compaq or a Gateway and we know
it was sold with an operating system because ALL of their systems of that
model are sold with an operating system, we can make an assumption that it
still has a license? Can we just spreadsheet it as OEM?

    6. We have a parent who has donated a couple of copies of Office 2000, and
then Microsoft "matches" it with "certificates" for more licenses. We used
the same CDs to install the program the number of times equal to our
certificates, but the program says it will crash after 45 uses (or whatever)
if we do not register it. How does this whole thing work?

    Thanks.
