--- TIC-TECH message:
Hello Folks,
Apology a head of time if you received this note before, but I got a
message that it didn't go through
I am writing to the Forum to publicly apologize to my IS person who has been
assigned to our building. The note I sent out on Tic Tech was not meant to
criticize him for what he said or did. He was just doing his job and I
understood that I had done something wrong. I was just trying to get
clarification on the issue of student being on the network, there has never
been any kind of guideline and there has been a lot of discussion, but
nothing formally in writing.
I was just pointing out that there seems to be a lack of communication as to
how things should be done sometime. It is a bit frustrating as a new High
School teacher coming into this area and the messages are so mixed up
sometime, we end up winging it and we don't always make good decisions as in
my case it appeared when making a student a Sysop on the network.
I do take responsibility for making decisions about our school network, but
I guess I want to note that mistakes will happen too. Teachers try and make
good decisions about their labs and try to work with the district. But there
aren't a whole lot of guidelines out there. This is a new arena for all of
us. I am still willing to stick my neck out and I am still willing to work
on dialog and discussion and I am willing to help with doing Web pages that
will help give information, so that there is clarification on procedures,
etc etc. I am just don't want to get in trouble with my IS person! I am
trying to be proactive and try to open up communications. I would be willing
to work on a section on insideseattleschools where there are some "Dos and
Don'ts " Web pages for guidelines for teachers working at the elementary,
middle school, and high school. It appears the needs are different for all
levels. Perhaps we could have some discussions during the meetings next
year. I don't have all the answers, that why I put it out to Tic Tech. I am
just trying to make life easier for all of us, after all, we are all in this
together.
