--- TIC-TECH message:
We've just installed an additional filtering server to help with the load on
the Bess proxy boxes.
This server is running a newer type of software. It isn't customized for
Seattle Schools to any large degree. You won't see a banner telling you that
you have gone through a proxy. If the site you attempt to visit is blocked,
you won't see the dog logo - you'll just see a very generic page saying that
the location is blocked by the organization's filter policy. By tomorrow
morning, there will be a mailbox to which review requests can be sent from
the link on the blocking page. However, machines without email access won't
be able to send review requests.
Although this implementation has some limitations, we felt it was important
to get additional resources on line to alleviate the overload that has made
access so slow for everyone. The software and the server it runs on are both
quite fast, so they should make a difference.
You do not need to change your browser in any way. We've added this proxy to
the DNS so that you can continue to use the current browser settings.
Thanks,
Judy
