    --- TIC-TECH message:
We know of at least four hosts within Seattle Schools that were infected by
the Nimda virus. Nimda is the virus that began circulating yesterday and
which is proving very virulent and difficult to deal with.

Because Nimda spreads so fast and by so many different mechanisms, we will
immediately shut off access to any infected machines we find. We will issue
a tracking ticket to the analyst for the affected site so that corrective
action can be taken right away. We are sorry for the inconvenience these
    necessary measures will cause.

Users should be instructed not to open any readme files that are either
attached to email or that come up while browsing the web. These files are
one of the mechanisms Nimda uses to spread itself.

Be sure that all machines are running antivirus software and that the
software's antivirus definitions are up to date. Major antivirus software
providers issued updates yesterday that are able to deal with Nimda. Also be
sure that antivirus software is set to watch files on a real-time basis so
that virus files downloaded during browser sessions will be caught.

    Thanks,
    Judy
