--- TIC-TECH message:
Our parents have had the same confusion, with some people apparently
checking no when they meant yes. We have twice as many kids this year who
don't have permission, and I haven't found out yet from the parents
exactly how many of them made a mistake. I thought the form was very
unclear. It should have said in huge letters: Your child has Internet
permission unless you check NO here. Also, I don't think the letter does
justice to the usefulness and importance of having Internet permission in
school. Nor does it convey the extent to which our filter already censors
content. I don't think we've ever had a case of a student coming in
contact with objectionable content (conversely, we've certainly had many
cases of appropriate content that we couldn't get to.)
