    (from Neil Rockwell - ma)

My two cents worth is in favor of Infocus Projectors. They have
tremendous design and work exceedingly well. They have a reputation for
high cost, yet I just ordered two of the LP 280's for $1850 each at
micro computer systems in Lynwood. These are 1000 lumen units. The
new LP 290 is a 1100 lumen unit that goes for about $2900. I have 4
older low cost lightware projectors and they prove to me one thing above
all others, lumens are not the only question. Compare a good projector
with excellent optics and moderate lumens, and a poor projector with
poor optics and good lumen specifications and the unit with the better
optics will win out hands down. I have two Mitsubishi units as well.
One of them failed after 20 hours and the others got maybe 100 hours out
of its first bulb ($380 replacement cost). In Focus donated an excellent
portable projector to us last year and although the lumens are only 700,
the unit far outperforms the Lighware units we have with higher lumen
specifications. Infocus also offers refurbished units via their
    website.
