    --- TIC-TECH message:
At the last two Tech-forum meetings we received a briefing on the impending
roll-out of a computer for every certificated teacher. There were lots of
questions asked of Manny Ovena about the project. My understanding is that
the details of how this will happen are still being developed, so I would be
interested to hear what people think about the issues of deployment,
training, support, upgrading, and other issues. In addition I think itıs
important to consider what the main goal of this project is. Is it primarily
intended to provide a tool improve instruction and student learning or is
the main goal to provide an appliance to help us manage student data? If the
intention is to give teachers a tool that will improve their teaching and
student learning, then there needs to be more choice and input from teachers
and schools so those tools will fit the needs of each teacher. If on the
other hand this is a terminal for teachers to use to access student data,
input attendance, read email, and take care of other business then the setup
of a levy pc for everyone could well be the way to go. I think itıs great
that schools will be receiving more new computers over the next year or so,
but I think before it begins we should all understand what is really
    happening.
