There were several list responses to my question about tech job cuts. I
have been away from a computer all day (field trip) and though it best to
just compile all the responses into one rather than send out several to you
all. Below are the six responses, in order received, as of 3:30 PM
Thursday. Thanks for the info, and please feel free to continue the
conversation. - Mark

To All,
It is very sad but true that I.S. has had to take significant budget cuts.
We did have to lay off several people in Programming, Telecom, Help
Desk/Training and Network Support. At this time we are working to develop a
survival plan that will include eliminating some services and distributing
others. We are attempting to reorganize so that this event will have
minimal impact on the schools.
Our web Help Desk support has been cut, however, we are still supporting web
hosting and the technical aspects of the Web. We are working to develop a
strategy to handle general web support questions.
An official announcement is being prepared and should be out soon.
Thanks,
Charlie Walker

I believe I can confirm the loss of Amy Markishtum as district webmaster. I
emailed IS as a parent volunteer for Center High School to request district
server space for a school website (like Schmitz Park has), and was told, "we
were forced to cut our web support position". Charlie Walker at IS has been
very helpful, and I'm currently waiting for a web applications programmer to
get in touch with me so we can get the space up and running and the project
going. We've also had a change in Network Analysts at Schmitz Park in order
to even out the "workload". Also, from what I understand in West Seattle,
three analysts are now doing what four use to do (bummer). Haven't met our
new analyst yet, but I'm sure I will soon :) Hope this helps,

Amy Markishtum has been cut. I exchanged e-mails with her this week because
I have been waiting for a response to the web form.
I e-mailed Charlie Walker.
"We are still trying to understand how we are to operate with out Amy to
support the web sites. I will talk with Tai Hoang the manager of web
applications and develop a plan and direction. I am filing the requests and
will be responding to them as soon we have a plan to share."
So that is what I know.
As Charlie said, it's going to be a tough year.
Cheers.

I'll add to that. We have lost 2 analyst positions, both web developer
positions and one help desk position. I'm sure there are more but those are
the ones I have confirmed.

Hello TicTech Readers,
I'll work with IS leadership to prepare a facts 'sheet' related to the IS
cutbacks necessitated by the budget recovery plan being implemented at this
moment. Needless to say, this is a tough time for the IS department. Your
patience is appreciated.

Hello tictech readers;
the IS department, like other central staff organizations, is reducing
staff. All areas in IS were affected. The reductions included the loss of
5 vacant positions, the transfer of 5 staff to key capital projects (without
backfilling) and, regrettably, I also had to lay off a total of 7 employees.
This was incredibly difficult because these people are valued and dedicated
employees, and they are our friends.
IS service levels will be affected no matter where the cuts were made. We
are working very hard to minimize the impact in schools. I would appreciate
your understanding and support while we redistribute responsibilities,
change some processes, etc., in order to provide the best possible service
levels during this difficult period.
Additional information will be available in the near future. In the
meantime if you have questions please feel free to email or call me.
Thanks again for your support and understanding. John
