    ----
    Dear Educational Leader,

We are pleased to bring you this NECC 2003 update with information on:

    Keynotes Housing Registration

Our conference Web site at <http://www.iste.org/necc> will be updated regularly over the next five months as details become available, so be sure to visit the site often!

    Announcing Keynotes

Be inspired! Our featured keynote, Dr. Mae Jemison, is a fierce advocate for education and a leader of global achievements. The first African American woman in space, she is also an inventor, medical doctor, Peace Corps veteran, university professor, and founder of two technology companies. She also directed the Jemison Institute for Advancing Technology in Developing Countries at Dartmouth College and founded The Earth We Share(tm), a science camp where students from around the world gather to solve global dilemmas. Don't miss this dynamic innovator, a true international hero!

Dr. Jemison's Keynote will be held on Sunday evening at the Seattle Center, 5:45-7:00 pm, to be followed immediately by the Opening Reception. Conference veterans will notice that this is a departure from our usual scheduling -- be sure to keep this in mind when making your travel plans.

On Tuesday morning you can "Choose Your Own" Keynote at the convention center from amongst Alan Kay, Don Knezek, and Janette Racicot.

Allison Rossett will provide the Luncheon Keynote address on Wednesday, July 2, from 11:45 am-1:15 pm, also at the convention center. Seating at the luncheon is limited to 1,000, includes a plated meal, and requires advance ticket purchase.

********************************************************************* THE HOTLIST IS A MASTER REGISTRY OF K-12 SCHOOLS The registry is organized by state and by grade level. The registry also includes sites for charter Schools, virtual schools, school districts, state and regional education organizations, state departments of education, state standards and state administrators. Housing is Filling Up!

Housing for the conference is now more than 75% sold out -- don't hesitate to make your reservations online at <http://www.iste.org/necc>. In addition to the nationally-known hotel chains, Seattle has a number of charming locally-owned hotels for your consideration. Photos of most hotels are available on our site, so you can view the rooms and make your reservations with confidence. If you are a member of an ISTE affiliate, check our drop-down menu of special groups to see if your group has a special housing block already set aside.

Rooms may come available on a case-by-case basis depending on cancellations and individual arrival/departure adjustments. Inventory is not maintained by the NECC Housing Bureau -- so if you are interested in booking a room online at a hotel that does not show availability at the time you try, keep trying!

Shuttle service to and from all designated conference hotels and the convention center will be provided complimentary to all paid registrants, exhibitor personnel, and guests.

Don't Forget to Preregister by March 31!

All Super Early-Bird Registrations will receive their full three-day conference registration for just $125. Registrations placed between March 31 and May 1 receive their full three-day registration for $150. Registrations placed after May 1 are $175.

Coming Soon! --Registration for workshops, the keynote luncheon, the Monday night social events (Tillicum Village and the Museum of Flight), Kids' Camp at Island Wood, tours, and other ticketed events will be available at <http://www.iste.org/necc> by mid February. If you've already registered for the conference, use your confirmation number to add these special events.

At the same time, we'll be posting details on the conference program, including these highlights new to NECC 2003:

NECC/NCCE Bridged Events--several special staff development activities that will bridge time and place between the NCCE 2003 Conference (Portland, Oregon) in April and NECC 2003. See NCCE's Web site at <http://www.ncce.org/> for more information. Preregistration and additional fee required.

ISTE Administrator Leadership Forum--special one-day, activity-based event focusing on ISTE's National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) for Students, Teachers, and Administrators and other self-assessment strategies.

Global Gallery--poster presentations by international educators.

Best of the Best--workshops by presenters who earned the Best of the Best distinction for having presented one of the top 20 workshops at NECC 2002.

    ...and much more!

We hope to see all of you in Seattle for the best NECC yet!

    Best wishes,

Leslie Conery, NECC 2003 Conference Chair

    Donella Evoniuk, NECC Conference Director
