-tictech message:
Hello all,
Last night (Friday) I read this message from NetHappenings. I wasn't even
aware a shuttle was coming in for a landing Saturday. For several days I've
been thinking about sending along a recommendation to tictech for the
NetHappenings list. So on this sad day, here it is....
If there are teachers wanting to get the latest and best ed tech
announcements from the Internet community, they should subscribe to
NetHappenings. This amazing distribution list is run by Internet veteran
Gleason Sackmann, who compiles/distills the latest and best announcements of
projects and activities on the Internet - and sends them out VERY quickly.
Lots of messages. A little innocuous advertising. I've only just recently
subscribed. I've been on several lists for many years, but I find myself
drawn repeatedly to NetHappenings messages. If a teacher wants to subscribe
to one announcement list, to get the latest and greatest offered to the ed
community from the Internet, NetHappenings is the one. Subscription info at
the end. Please pass this on - Mark

Subject: RESOUR> Rare opportunity to see shuttle reentry in western USA

The shuttle is scheduled to be landing at 6:16AM Pacific Time in Florida
early Saturday Morning, after a reentry that will cross just north of the
Bay Area of California and then continue eastward before sunrise. The
Shuttle shoudl be very visible as it reenters (I saw this once before for an
Edwards landing and it stopped traffic on I-5 it was so dramatic).
We don't see these on the West Coast very often. This should be visible
over much of California, Oregon, Nevada and Utah and east at least to the
edge of the Mountain Time Zone.

TECHNOLOGY AND THE PERFORMING ARTS
Would you like to give your teachers a resource
where they can find out how to integrate the Internet
with General Performing, Cool Stuff, Dance, Theater,
Circus, Costumes, Vaudeville / Burlesque,
Playground / Amusements, and Special Events / Festivals

Shuttle ground tracks are at:
http://spaceflight.nasa.gov/realdata/groundtracs/index.html
Current shuttle status is at:
http://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts107/status.html
One of these sights should have the updated information in case they decide
to land later, however right now everythign looks good for an early morning
landing. Flight over the Bay Area (inside the atmosphere during reentry)
will be at 5:54AM PST Saturday morning (22 minutes before touchdown at
Kennedy Space Center). You can hear a sonic boom when this happens, over *4
and half minutes* later.
