Hi Tony,
About 5 years ago, I ran a summer program on robotics at High Point that was
funded by the Challenge Grant.I taught them basic Logo programming, we used
the Valiant "Roamer" whose programming was based on Logo line commands, and
we also used the Lego-Dacta Robolab system. The "robots" were built using an
RCX brick (don't ask me what that stands for). The actual programs were
downlaoaded to the brick from the computer via an infra-red transmitter. The
programs were created using the Robolab software. The bricks furnished the
foundation for the models that the kids built. It looked like a large yellow
Lego piece and the kits had hundreds of lego pieces as well as wheels and
sensors so that you could program different behaviors depending the color of
the floor or the presence of an obstacle. It was very cool. I'm not sure
where those kits are now; we had eight of them. If you are interested, I
will try to track them down for you. There is a lot of that stuff out there.
You might want to contact Gene Small at Small World Technologies in
Portland.

Dear Tic Tech:
A student asked me if anyone has knowledge of a Lego Dacta Computer
Interface. He would be interested obtaining such a device from the school
district or elsewhere. If you know anything about obtaining this gadget,
drop me a note. He's already checked on Ebay.
Thanks,
Tony Hand
