    Hi all,

At Schmitz Park, I simply mapped a drive to the student server from all
CWS's in the building and I placed a shortcut on the desktop for each
teacher. I did it in a couple of seconds, while the machine was logged on
as the teacher for that machine. I didn't need special permissions to do
it. Then, I did the same thing on every student machine. Have you tried to
do that and are still running into trouble? On our student server, each
classroom has its own folder with a folder within it for each student.
Students can access their work on student machines from their classroom, the
    computer lab, and/or the library.

By the way, our student server may have had permissions set up this way when
it was brought into our building, as our tech committee discussed this issue
during our tech plan writing. We already knew we wanted students and
teachers alike to be able to access these folders, and our analyst was aware
of this. I have since taken the CWS/SysOp/SysAdmin training for additional
permissions to work on our building machines (like printers). Hope this
helps answer a question or two...

    Hello all...
There are those who read this list but do not always reply that could answer
your server questions better than I. It is very important that teachers
machines be able to talk to the server that houses student work. My
suggestions would be to contact your analyst and have him or her come to the
school to look at the situation so that you could develop a plan that works
for teacher needs and those of the district.

Devin's suggestion about taking the class offered by IS is a good one. If
one person or more from each building would take the class then many of the
software and printer issues would be taken care of in-building. Contact
Charlie Walker at 252-0303 to ask when the next classes will be offered.
