First of all, ALL of the black Dell computers have problems with the floppy
and CD-ROM disc drives. This is a design fault with the cases. Often, you
suddenly can't eject a floppy or CD. When that happens, the computer needs
to be opened up and the drives reseated. Sometimes , students often just
throw their floppy disk into their packs and sooner or later they will be
too physically damaged to work. Sometimes you can read the list of files
but the files won't open.
Usually when a Floppy drive asks to format a disk, the drive is damaged and
has the metal slider from another disk stuck inside. I've found it easiest
to remove the drive from the computer to remove the metal slider. But,
that would be a problem with only one computer.
