Date: Sun, 8 Sep 1996 17:08:19 -0400 (EDT) I was taking a break between plastering and sanding and priming and puttying and goodness knows what else as I struggled to reclaim my son's ravaged bedroom for civilization. As I was reading my e-mail, on my screen popped a notice of a message from a first year student who signed up for my American history survey class this quarter. "Dr. Schmier, I'm so and so. I really looking forward to being in your class and I want to get a head start. What do I need for your class. I heard you were a neat guy and I want to learn a lot of history." Without even thinking, I shot back one word: "Imagination!" And then added, "And, the daring to use it."
