--- TIC-TECH message:
Hello,
Allow me to introduce myself, I am Andrew Dahlgaard. I work for Information
Systems doing Levy Department - Acquisitions. That means I am researching
products like computers, network switches, and CD-ROMs that schools can buy.
As a new reader to this list, I would like to bring up a point, even if a
school is totally on switched ports, the connection from a school to the
outside world is finite. If the connection leaving the school is small,
adding network switches in the school does not "fix" the issue. The WAN
project is proceeding at a brisk pace, and here is the link to the
TECHNOLOGY LEVY WAN/LAN SCHEDULE:
http://inside.seattleschools.org/wan_lan.shtml
Information Systems is going to be testing a series of network switches that
are as follows:
AT-FS708 10/100 X 8 ports ~$70
AT-FS716 10/100 X 16 ports ~$180
AT-FS724i 10/100 X 24 ports ~$250
Once qualified, (hopefully within the next 10 days) the switches that we are
testing will be much more desirable than a "CompUSA instant hub." First, it
is a auto sensing 10/100 Mb switch instead of a 10 Mb hub, (faster, less
collisions, and reset of hop count.) Second, they have an internal power
transformer and a "normal" computer power cable to power the unit instead of
a "wall wart" external transformer. Next, they have a limited lifetime
warranty. Last, they will be standard across the entire district.
Lastly, I would like to advertise our new website that will have a lot of
products, including the afore mentioned switches, that Information
Technology and Information Systems are posting on our internal website:
