    --- TIC-TECH message:
There is a 5 minute maximum hold on all emails at the district gateway so
they can be screened for viruses. If the particular message has an
attachment of the types that might contain a virus, then that message is
quarantined until it can be reviewed and either deleted (with notification
to the district sender or recipient) or released to go on its way.

This review process currently is a manual process, so it sometimes
introduces a fairly large delay. We're testing an automated system that will
not only eliminate the time spent in quarantine, but will also eliminate the
    5 minute holding period.

Jeff, I don't remember seeing any of your messages in the quarantine, so I
can't directly account for 30 minute or longer delays. There's always a
possibility with mail going to the Internet that the connection can't be
made on the initial attempt. In those cases, the system holds the messages
and tries again in 30 minutes. If you continue to see these delays, please
send me headers from a couple of the messages as soon as possible after you
know the delay has occurred. We'll try to trace them through the system to
see if we can learn more about the problem.

    Thanks,
    Judy

    --- TIC-TECH message:
I recently made the switch from cks to Exchange. While most things have
gone smoothly, one significant problem has emerged.

When sending or receiving email, I've noticed a delay of on average 15-30
minutes (and sometimes many hours) between the time the message is sent and
the time that it is received. I was informed by the Helpdesk that this
delay is due to the fact that the district is presently screening all emails
    for viruses.

Is there anything that can be done to speed things up? This has made
    communicating via email quite difficult.

I feel like I've gone from a $25 phone that does little more than reliably
connect calls to a top-of-the-line $300 phone with every feature known to
man that requires 6 operators to place a call down the street...

    Jeff
