--- TIC-TECH message:
Paula,
Sounds like the perfect time to have someone design a web start page for
your network - assuming you're on a segment of a network that at least
allows file sharing. I'm also assuming there would be someone with the
skills and time to set it up. Our building has a start page where we
point all browsers when the Internet is started up. It looks a lot like
this, but it's a local version only (and the links all work!):
http://www.halcyon.com/arborhts/workshop/welcome.htm
The start page does not even have to be on a server. My classroom, and
a few others, start on a web page stored on one of the stations in my
classroom - rather than the schoolwide one located on the server. That
makes it real easy for me to go in and add/delete content, set up timely
links, etc. very quickly - so my start page is customized to fit my
current curriculum.
I'll be encouraging all classroom teachers next year to do the same for
their classes - or maybe a cluster of rooms. Seems like a lab would be
a great place to start with a web page, where all who use the lab might
have input on what they'd like to see there, links, etc. - Mark
