    --- TIC-TECH message:
    Mark et al,

Server acquisitions need to be planned and designed based on the individual
requirements of the population and applications of the school. The costs
run from about $2500 and up for an honest server. The school network can
operate without a server by using the router for IP address management.
However, most schools are using DHCP from a library server or other building
    server.

As we move forward to the new Windows 2000 network environment we are
advising schools that have funds available to purchase a capable server for
their school. Used servers will work in some cases, but if they are going
to be mission critical for your network we advise you think new servers.

Please contact your Network Analyst to develop a server plan. Our Network
Analysts will visit with you to review the specifications prior to ordering
the server. This will help to ensure that an appropriate server is ordered
that is within the limitations of your budget. You can find your Network
Analyst on the inside.yadayada... web site. ;-)

    Thanks

    Subject: Tic-Tech: district server specs?

    --- TIC-TECH message:
    Hi All,
Wondered if someone can tell me where to find the (new?) specs for
servers required by the district. Since we have no $ from our budget
for this, we asked our ptsa to cover the cost for the $3,000 Dell listed
on the inside.yadayada... web site. The server info is no longer
there. Yesterday I was told a server for our building would run at
least $7,000. We obviously need to do some shopping around - and look
for different sources of funding. If anyone has current specs required
for district servers, please let me know. Thanks in advance - Mark

ps - We're going to be wired and put on the WAN this summer. I've been
told we HAVE to have our new server in place for this to happen, and
I've also been told it doesn't matter if we have our new server or not.
Any clarification on this also appreciated.
