    --- TIC-TECH message:
The VAX email system will be down for maintenance starting at 4:00 p.m.
today (Friday, 4/6). The maintenance process is expected to take up to five
days. When the process has completed, Information Services will notify all
district email users that the system is back in operation. VAX users should
watch for a logon banner stating that the system is back in operation.

What happens to VAX email during the downtime?
All email destined for VAX email addressees will be held at the district's
email gateway. When the system comes back up, the held mail will be
    delivered.

    Why is the maintenance necessary?
The VAX email system is very old in technology terms. Over the years, we
have asked it to do many things it was never designed to do. These demands
have made the system very fragile. The only way to prevent it from breaking
entirely is to run a major maintenance process occasionally. We selected
Spring Break because fewer users will be impacted by the outage. We
apologize for any inconvenience caused by the necessary maintenance.

    Thanks,
    Judy
