Puget Sound Center Mentoring Grant
Our District has recently received a grant through the Puget Sound Center
for Teaching, Learning, and Technology to develop a staff mentoring program
in schools that would focus on helping teachers integrate technology into
the curriculum.
Our goal is to use this grant to create a mentoring model in two pilot
schools that other schools could replicate. The heart of the program is the
identification of a teacher with the skills and willingness to be a strong
mentor, and a team of two to three teachers in their schools who have
identified specific plans for the use of technology in their classroom. The
last member of the team would be the school's tech support specialist who
keeps the equipment operating. This team would work together during the
next school year to integrate a series of technology-based projects into
their classrooms.
This grant would provide approximately $3450 to a school for release time
and staff development for participating staff. Additionally, the tech
support staff person would participate in maintenance and networking courses
this summer.
Another Opportunity for Building Mentors
We also may have a funding source that would provide half-time release for a
teacher in up to five schools. This would also be for a mentoring model
focusing on assisting teachers with the integration of technology. Eligible
schools for this grant must have a high proportion (75% or above) of
students receiving free and reduced lunch.
What we are Looking For:

* Have completed a technology plan
* Want to promote staff development from within
* Have a strong potential mentor who:
* Is recognized by staff as a strong teacher/ perhaps an outstanding
teacher Regularly integrates technology into standards based activities

* Is well-respected by staff in your building
* Has strong interpersonal and communication skills
