    Seattle Public Schools
    2001 Summer Courses for Building Technology Support Personnel

    The Seattle Public Schools, with support from the Puget Sound Center for
    Teaching, Learning, and Technology, will offer three classes this summer
    to school building staff members who have direct responsibility for the
    maintenance and operations of computer hardware and networks. These
    courses are provided free to participants who work in a Seattle Public
    School. Enrollment will be coordinated through the district's
    Information Services office.

    A+

    This class will provide participants with an understanding of the basic
    principles of the operation of the computer including the motherboard,
    processors, memory and the operating system. It will also focus on the
    skills school support staffs need to offer technical support for the
    computers and peripherals in their schools. Specific skills include
    the ability to identify, install, configure and upgrade microcomputer
    modules and peripherals, provide preventative maintenance for PC's and
    peripherals, and the ability to diagnose and troubleshoot common
    problems related to the DOS and Win XX operating systems. In addition,
    participants will gain an understanding of the basic concepts and
    terminology of networks, and associated PC hardware.

    DATES: July 9 to 13, 2001
            TIMES: 8:30 to 4:30 daily

    On-Ramp To Networking (Networking Essentials for Educators)

    This workshop is designed for educators who need to develop networking
    expertise but who do not yet have the prerequisite knowledge assumed for
    a typical intensive Networking Essentials course. Topics will include
    hardware and software topics from A+ certification curriculum,
    introduction to operating systems, basic network design concepts and
    administration tools.
            
    DATES: July 26 to 28, 2001
            TIMES: 8:30 to 4:30 daily
            LOCATION: Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology

    Networking for School Administrators and Staff

    This course provides educators with the knowledge and skills necessary
    to perform post-installation and day-to-day administration tasks in a
    single-domain or multiple-domain Microsoft® Windows NT®-based network.
    On-Ramp to Networking is a prerequisite for this course.

    DATES: July 30 to August 3, 2001
            TIMES: 8:30 to 4:30 daily
            LOCATION: Puget Sound Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology
