responsibility for the maintenance and operations of computer hardware and
networks. There will be three courses: A+, On-Ramp to Networking, and
Networking for School Administrators and Staff.
A committee will decide who will be enrolled in the training by May 15th.

please submit a registration form from the inside.seattleschools.org
website.
Master Teacher Recruitment
Recruitment for the Master Teacher program continues. They are seeking 20
more candidates to the program, teams of 5 teachers from a school will be
considered. For more information please contact Eric Faulkner at
Instructional Technology.
IT All Stars
Peggy Yaplee and three students from Cleveland high school gave a
presentation on their website that the students developed for a recent
competition during which the Seattle District brought home six awards. The
students presented their 2nd & 3rd Grade math website. Very impressive!
Windows 2000 Migration
John Ferguson, Network Analyst, provided an update on the District Windows
2000 migration. He provided an overview of the current domain architecture,
and discussed the plans for changing that architecture to a single
seattleschools.org domain.
The advantages of the Windows 2000 domain will include the ability to
provide centralized, remote administration of desktops and increased network
security. It also decreases the overall cost of administering the Wide Area
Network.
There is currently no schedule for deployment of the new domain at the
school level.
John answered questions from the group to clarify the progress on the
migration.
Award Presentation
Les Foltos, Director of Information Technology, is resigning as of May 4th.
Many stories and thanks shared his staff and others. Judy Margrath-Huge
presented Les with a plaque. A reception followed.
Adjourn
The meeting was adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
Next Meeting Scheduled
The next Technology Forum will be held May 30, 2001, from 4:00 p.m. until
6:00 p.m., at the A&S Auditorium. This will be our last forum of the school
year. We plan to have some vendors present new products and cover some of
the items missed during the last meeting. We would also like to have more
students share some of their projects. Please contact Charlie Walker at
chwalker@seattleschools.org <mailto:chwalker@seattleschools.org> if you have
students that would like to present.
