--- TIC-TECH message:
On Tuesday afternoon, we installed an additional filter server on the
district network. The reason for the installation was to speed up Internet
access and relieve the congestion that has been such a problem for all of us
in the recent past.
If you used the Internet yesterday, we hope that you saw a significant
increase in access speed, as we did here at IS.
No good thing ever comes without a matching drawback, though. There has been
a problem with the underlying proxy services on the new server. Those
services have failed on a random basis. Each time they fail, access is
interrupted for approximately 5 minutes while the services restore
themselves.
We have a possible fix for the dying proxy services. We are in the process
of building another server with that fix in place. It should go on line by
10:00 this morning, and we're very hopeful that it will solve the problem.
If the problem recurs, we will drop back to the original filter situation,
which is extremely slow but doesn't have the dropout problem.
Our intent was to find an interim solution to make Internet access during
the last weeks of school work better for you. I'm very sorry that the
solution has introduced additional problems.
Thanks,
Judy
