    I just re-read my post and I think I need to clarify one section. The last
    paragraph read:

    You can't send mail from the Exchange server if you are connecting from
    outside the district. This is called relaying. It's a method used by
    spammers, so we can't make it universally available. You can set up a POP3
    or IMAP client so that it sends mail via your ISP rather than trying to send
    it via the district. This is complicated, so I suggest you avoid it.

    That paragraph applies to POP3 and IMAP clients only (the #2 situation). If
    you use the full Outlook client, you can both send and receive mail via
    Exchange.
