    --- TIC-TECH message:
Bandwidth utilization throughout the district has increased dramatically
this school year. The increased use is due to 20 new schools having come on
the network this summer, and to the addition of computers at many locations.

The result of the increased traffic has been to saturate the seven shared
T1s by which the schools connect to the central router here at IS. When
those T1s are saturated, everyone's access slows drastically.

Within the next few days we will be connecting one more T1 at this end and
pointing some schools at it as a very temporary bandaid for this situation.
At the same time, we are placing an order for a T3 line to replace the
shared T1s coming into IS. The T3 line will triple the bandwidth available
    (8 current T1s = 12Mbps maximum; 1 T3 = 45Mbps maximum).

At this point, we estimate it will take approximately a month to get the
necessary additional equipment and to get the T3 line installed. We'll keep
you posted on the progress of the additional bandwidth.

Keep in mind that the shared T1s, and even the T3, are only interim
solutions until the full WAN with fiber optic backbone is in place.

    Thanks,
    Judy
