-tictech message:
Greetings tictech subscribers;
Manny Ovena is on vacation so I will attempt to address Mark's questions.
Matt Page and Janice Johnson-Palmer's emails were correct, except these
computers are actually better than the student computers -- they are 1Ghz,
256Meg, with CD-W's.
For additional information please see the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
about this project on the inside.seattleschools.org web site. Click on
'Technology Levy Projects' in the left side navigation bar, which will take
you to the Classroom Workstation Project. The FAQ's are directly under the
Classroom Workstation Project Goals.
Manny has been working with a focus group to gain insights from schools and
teachers on this project. The focus group is composed of teachers from 21
schools, IT specialists, IS personnel, etc.
The initial roll-out schedule is:
Sealth - late March
Gatzert - early May
Washington - early May
Green lake - mid May
Hamilton - mid May
These schools have volunteered to help us work out the kinks in the roll-out
process.
Manny wrote a letter to all Principals asking them when it would be most
convenient to schedule their school, beginning in July of this year. He
will publish the schedule in the next month or so. Our goal is to do 2
schools per week, and finish the last school by June 2003.
Additional information and Q&A are available at the next Tech Forum on
Thursday, January 31st, 4:00-6:00, at Cooper School. Members of the
roll-out team will be on hand to answer questions. Minutes of that meeting
will be published on the inside.seattleschools site and through tictech, but
there is always more information available at the meetings than we can
capture in the minutes.
This is a major project with a lot of great people helping to make it
happen. Please let me know if you have additional questions.
I appreciate your interest and support. John

Subject: RE: tictech: teacher desktops?
-tictech message:
Mark,
My understanding is:
- the "teacher" desktops are actually "classroom" desktops (they will be
assigned to rooms, not teachers.)
- they will be Win2000 machines (despite repeated requests for a MacOS
option.)
- they will be desktops but schools may receive a few laptops as well to
share amongst the staff
- they will be in schools by late this school year
- Manny Ovena is leading this project (mcovena@seattleschools.org)
Do I have this right Manny?
