Well the problem is partially with those who have been doing the work
uncompensated for years. Sorry folks I know this is going to be a really
unpopular viewpoint, but you are the ones who allowed the can of worms to be
filled with your uncompensated work in the first place. In my 16 or 17
years with this district I have seen well meaning individuals (both IA's and
certificated) doing all types of duties for which they are not compensated
and even in some cases pitching in and doing things that legally they are
not required to do and if some cases (with good intentions in order to help
out) doing duties that it is illegal for them to do (such as IA's writing
IEP's for students).
The problem existed long before this issue arose.........this just brings it
out in relief in a more obvious manner.
Well at least if your volunteer doings included mileage you could get paid
for that, but when it comes to moving electrons mileage is not
compensated<G>

There are other equity issues to consider as well. How about the
possibility that in many buildings these stipends will go to tech
coordinators who are already doing this work? How will the rest of the
building staff feel about this "bonus" for the tech person? Or how about
the feelings of the classroom teachers or IA's who have been doing this work
and much more, uncompensated, for many years?
