Hi All,
Mac users have known about NIH Image for a long time. It's nice to be
reminded the gift economy of the internet is still there, providing great
stuff. The home page (http://rsb.info.nih.gov/nih-image) has a link to
ImageJ - a nice Java based image processing program for Win/Mac/Linux users.
Very good stuff, and it's free, not shareware. See below. - Mark

A while ago there was a query posted about free photo
editing software and I'm sorry to admit that it took me
until last night to have an, "AHA!"
I first learned photo editing using NIH software. It is
available, for free, from the National Institute of Health -
both Mac and PC formats are available. the download page is
at:
http://rsb.info.nih.gov/nih-image/download.html
It isn't fancy, but I 've had student put themselves on the
moon (at least digitally) and restored old photos with it.
