    Hi all,

Our school was lucky enough to try out a way cool printer last year. It is
    kind
of expensive, made by Xerox called a Phaser. (Don't give up reading yet.)
    Check
out their website if you are interested. Do a search at : www.xerox.com

They claim that the copies cost less than the HPs that are commonly used in
classrooms. I am not totally convinced of this yet.

We had it set up in the computer lab. I live close to it, so when a student
printed out a color picture, it would be waiting in the lab when s/he got
    there.
No hassle, never a problem. The copies aren't wet and they look very good,
    a
    little shiny.

The really interesting part is that the ink comes in 4 blocks (black plus 3
colors) which you can pick up. They look like wax. You just open the hatch
    and
look in to see how much is left. What's really neat is that you don't have
    to
throw out a cartridge just because someone printed out a lot of yellow
    pictures.

We are getting the use of another one this year, due to the fact that we are
    in
the category of more than 60% F/R lunch status. You apply online. One
    drawback
is that we have to purchase the ink blocks and paper and guarantee a minimum
    of
copies (averaged) each month and send in monthly reports or you pay extra.
    The
cost estimate is about $100 a month. I think the minimum copy number is
    2000.
The average part is good since summer is counted. This comes out to a good
deal. The other thought is that if it looks like we aren't making our
    quota, we
can print out class sets of homework or other assignments to get the count
    up.

Is there anyone else who has a Phaser? I am interested in hearing your
    opinion.

I hope everyone has a great Winter Break. My pile of reading material is
already waiting for me as well as some new software to mess around with.
