    -tictech message:

As a classroom teacher, I agree each classroom needs a printer. Over half of
all written work submitted in my classroom comes from my little tank, an HP
    520. Sure, some use printers more than others. But I see a printer as a
piece of equipment just as critical to every classroom as a TV, an overhead
projector, a blackboard, a phone, a vcr, etc. Sure, you could try to put a
few networked printers with folks who are the heavy users, and have people
running into their classrooms at all times, leaving a few teachers to deal
with the technical management (thanks, Neil, for the nice description of the
potential nightmare of such scenarios), but I'm looking for a different
solution for my school. We have absolutely NO money for anything like
networked printers anyway. Heck, we are even soliciting donations from
    parents for supplies.

I am surprised that we are in the middle of this huge rollout - and we have
so many unanswered questions, so much confusion and misunderstanding on this
issue of printers. Shared printers on 9X machines have been an important
way of life for most of us teachers for many years. This should not be news
to anyone. Now that way of life is coming to an end, and there is no
realistic solution in sight. Still looking - Mark
