--- TIC-TECH message:
Hi Mark,
First, a word of reassurance - things aren't moving quite as quickly as it
may sound just now. The email rollout is a two-pronged process. One branch
is the offer we made at a tech forum a while ago to let individuals request
Outlook/OWA accounts. The other branch is the full rollout to a school. So
far, we're on the first branch with Arbor Heights, and the full rollout is
still in the future (after completion of the wiring).
When we get closer to the full rollout for Arbor Heights, you'll receive a
packet of information outlining the process and the timing. Then there will
be a series of planning meetings involving the team that will do the
rollout. The team will consist of both school and IS staff.
Part of the rollout will be training for staff so that you won't be the only
resource for the new users in your building. Discussion of the best training
model for your building will be part of the team meetings.
You're right that changing existing email addresses is a big challenge. I'm
still finding a few that I haven't gotten converted in my accounts. However,
it doesn't have to be an all-or-nothing situation. The cks accounts will be
aliased so that mail addressed to them will automatically go to the new
address. We can also discuss ways to handle things like the mailto links on
your web pages.
It's a big task and you're wise to start thinking of the implications. As
you come up with issues or questions, send them along to me and I'll get
them to the rollout team so we can make sure they get included in the
rollout planning for Arbor Heights.
Thanks,
Judy

Subject: Tic-Tech: changing accounts at a school
--- TIC-TECH message:
Hi All,
Wondered if anyone would have information to share, advice to give, etc
on how to effectively deal with the the following:
Our school will be wired this summer. Today we were just given forms to
change all district staff accounts to seattleschools.org.
Any experiences, good or bad, any advice, suggestions, or tips would be
much appreciated. I'm reeling, looking at the enormity of not only
reconfiguring my own email, hundreds of mailto links on web pages,
subscriptions to many lists, etc - but also looking at the rest of the
staff at this building, many just starting out with email, and figuring
out how in the world to help them with this. I guess we have a week,
then cks is gone for us, except for a .forward file. Yikes.
Thanks in advance - Mark
