    Laura and all,
On what to do with the old stuff.... We ended up with a heap of old 486
cpu's from our old lab. We removed a few nic's, sound and video cards,
some memory, etc, and then put them in a BIG pile to be surplussed.
Still sitting in a corner of our lab.

At the end of the school year last spring, someone made the mistake (in
my opinion) of offering - or loaning - these old machines to families
from our school. A couple of us managed to get this offer revoked.
Besides being relatively worthless machines, there seemed to be a huge
potential problem in terms of software licensing and liability. I would
think real carefully about putting school computers in the hands of
families - even on a temporary basis. Best to surplus them, I would
    think. - Mark
