    Hi All,

Regarding Paula's letter, my experience is the same at Hale. Having been
the Tech Coordinator for some time I was interested in the Ed Tech position.
Since I am not tied down with classes, I actually have the time to get
together with teachers during their prep periods and help them plan, and to
be present in classrooms during projects to help troubleshoot problems as
they arise. However, I am not eligible to apply for the Ed Tech position
since I am a classified employee. A phone call to David Engle reveals that
including classified staff was considered but then rejected due to
    difficulties.

We have many wonderful certificated staff who can fill this position, but
most of them will not have the time or flexibility to integrate their
efforts with other staff in an easy fashion.

Here are the parts of the job announcement I found most disturbing:

    ==============================================================
"This person will be the contact person in the building for
system-wide communication and educational technology professional
    development initiatives.

This role is intended to provide a communication, coordination and
support link both within each building and with the larger Seattle
    Public Schools system.

    ===============================================================

If in fact, the district begins using this position to push "system-wide
communication" to the schools, especially as it relates to Ed Tech
specialized training, then Tech Coordinators who do not hold this position
will once again be "out-of-the-loop". My conversation with David Engle
suggested that this will not be the case. I'm not sure how that lines up
with the statements above however (?)

I am considering attending the meetings without compensation just because it
sounds like interesting and valuable information. But my certified
counterpart will get all the money.

    Hi Mark,

I received the info via our principal in an all staff email. I asked if
    I
would be eligible since I'm our building tech coordinator and have been
doing the described job for the past five years. He looked into it, and
    was
told that it was available for certs only (I'm a classified employee) -
    so
the $$ will go to a teacher in our building if they want the position.
    Hope
this helps answer at least one of your questions.
