There are other equity issues to consider as well. How about the
possibility that in many buildings these stipends will go to tech
coordinators who are already doing this work? How will the rest of the
building staff feel about this "bonus" for the tech person? Or how about
the feelings of the classroom teachers or IA's who have been doing this work
and much more, uncompensated, for many years?
When a stipend like this suddenly arrives in every building in the district,
there are bound to be many issues that arise. I would encourage building
staff to discuss this as openly as possible.
Several people have written to me about this off-list today. I have learned
a lot more about the answers to my original questions. I will try to get
those answers to you all on Friday.
In the meantime, I hope folks will continue to ask questions and offer
answers. To do what needs to be done, to get a network of tech people in
each district school, this is too little and way late, but it is a start.
The intent is good. Let's hope it is successful and grows, quickly. - Mark
