    -tictech message:

Whitman's rollout went fairly smoothly. Whitman has 57 teachers for 1126
students. In preparation for the rollout our Tech Committee had agreed to
purchase equipment for 11 network printer/scanner stations, (electric-ready
rolling carts, HP laserjet printers, print servers, and scanners). We
assigned geographically close rooms to a printer station and the tech
analyst put the stations in order. That has worked well except for one
(well used station) that is in a portable where the circuit breakers keeps
going off and the station loses its IP address. (The scanners will be
attached to a student machine when those come in Dec.)

The teachers were also told that they could ROPE a printer for their
classroom if they understood they would have to supply ink or toner for
themselves. One of the problems with that was that teachers did not have
the printers sitting in place ready to be attached when the rollout came
through. (Some left them in boxes nearby, some had them on other tables,
etc.) We did eventually get all the printers attached and they seem to be
    working.

There were three problems with teachers getting on. All were related to
teacher profile issues: one was a name change, one was an itinerant teacher,
one was a new teacher. We were glad to see the district set up profiles for
the IA's. That was a very needed thing for our staff communication.

The staff that attended the trainings were very pleased with the tools
taught there. The 4th day was wonderful for those that took advantage of
it. Staff were able to pick their own target and work in their rooms. I
worked with one teacher on how to do Outlook and how to use their server
file. I worked with one teacher on how to use Inspiration to create
graphical organizers, and I helped one teacher get started with PowerPoint.
There were many district staff going from room to room to touch base with
people about what they wanted to learn. It worked quite nicely.
